A partir de amanhã e durante todo o mês de Agosto, investigadores da Sociedade de História Natural preparam-se para viajar em direcção aos Estados Unidos da América, onde irão participar numa expedição paleontológica organizada pelo Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Esta campanha terá lugar no estado de Utah em pleno deserto, e tem como principal enfoque a escavação de restos de dinossaúrios do Jurássico Superior da Morrison Formation. Esta formação é famosa pela sua enorme riqueza em restos fósseis de dinossáurios, destacando-se géneros como Allosaurus, Camarasaurus ou Stegosaurus. O trabalho de campo a ser efectuado em território americano (e já efectuado por investigadores da SHN anteriormente) é particularmente importante no estudo da Formação da Lourinhã e respectivas faunas, pois correspondem a sedimentos sincrónicos (i.e., da mesma idade). Esta escavação contará assim com a presença de investigadores argentinos, norte-americanos, espanhóis e portugueses.source: http://americannationalparks.wordpress.comHello Utah!Beginning tomorrow and throughout the month of August, researchers from the ALT-Natural History Society will travel toward the United States, where they will participate in a paleontological expedition organized by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. This campaign will take place in Utah desert, and its main focus is the excavation of the remains of dinosaurs from the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation. This formation is famous for its enormous wealth of fossil remains of dinosaurs, especially genera like Allosaurus, Stegosaurus and Camarasaurus. The field work being carried out on American soil (and already carried out by researchers from the ALT-SHN previously) is particularly important for the study the formation of Lourinhã and their faunas. They correspond to sediments synchronous (i.e., the same age). This excavation will also be done in the presence of researchers from Argentina, Spain and EUA.
