On most Mondays I pick five posts from the previous week in the geoscience blogosphere that caught my eye. I limit it to just five because I want those who are not already plugged into this community to get a manageable sampling of the awesome stuff out there.
Here's my list for December 12-18, 2011.
Siim of Sandatlas posts a few photos of some perplexing sandstone columns.
Chris Rowan of Highly Allochthonous did the heroic job of compiling all the known blog posts from the AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco earlier this month.
Ron Schott of Ron Schott's Geology Home Companion Blog shares some images of turbidite deposits in honor of Arnold Bouma, who passed away at the age of 79 last week.
Maitri of Maitri's VatulBlog joins in the geo-photo sharing extravaganza with a nice shot of the oldest known rock on Earth.
Finally, Cole Kingsbury of Chaotically Flow-Banded shares a few videos of rare carbonatite lava eruptions in Tanzania Africa. This is crazy stuff, it doesn't even look like lava!
