Auf Island wurde die Ringstraße wegen dem Gletscherlauf der Skaftá gesperrt. Im Bereich von Kirkjubæjarklaustur kam es zu starken Überflutungen. Das Schmelzwasser des Gletscherlaufes ist sehr warm und riecht nach Schwefelwasserstoff. Sehr wahrscheinlich ist die hydrothermale Aktivität im Bereich der Grimsvötn-Caldera hoch.
