Iceland 2021 - 11-Day Journey Around a Volcanic Island

I haven't been anywhere overseas since October of 2019 (Bhutan and Nepal). So when a friend asked me if I would show him Iceland, I jumped at the chance. For the next ten days we'll explore this fascinating landscape and culture. Join me for the ride.

The ever-changing skyline of Reykjavik, capital of Iceland. A building boom of high-rise apartments is ongoing along the harbor shore.
The Hallmsgrimkirkja or Hallmsgrim Church, completed in 1986 after a 40 year construction project. The angled columns of concrete represent the basalt columns formed from cooling lava so commonly seen in Iceland.

A statue of Leifur Eriksson, who spotted Vineland (coastal North America) in about 1000 CE. The statue was contributed to the people if Iceland from the United States in 1930 in honor of the millennial anniversary of the Althing, considered the first European Parliament that began here in 930 CE.
One of the more famous museums in Reykjavik to the glories of male genitalia. It is actually a science museum with over 130 specimens from over 90 species of mammals (we did not pay the admission to go in but John bought a souvenir in the gift shop for a friend back home who wanted one). Just saying, when we were in here there were just the two of us, two other males and six females.
The most famous hot dog stand in Iceland. Tomorrow it is off to view the sights around the Golden Circle. Check back tomorrow.
